Electronically controlled cigar humidification of the highest quality

It’s nice to know that there are still a few luxuries in life. In some cases, one has to go to extraordinary lengths to find the solution that best fits one’s needs. This may not be entirely obvious with an object such as a humidor – which made the task assigned to our drive specialists by EGH-electronic in Sinzheim all the more attractive. The Hydrocase is an electronically controlled cigar humidification system for state-of-the-art humidors. It ensures a precise relative humidity of 71%. This is the exact degree of humidity needed for cigar storage in order to guarantee utmost "smoker satisfaction". However, in order to maintain the precise level of 71% – at all variations in temperature – a substantial degree of technical wizardry is necessary.
A micro fan draws the air from the humidor every three hours and measures the relative humidity. If it is too low, a slide valve opens and the fan blows moist air into the humidor for 30 seconds. If the humidity measured afterwards is over 71%, the slide valve closes. The fan stops and the basic evaporation level is practically zero. If the humidity level is below 71%, the slide valve remains open and evaporation takes place passively over the next three hours. After each subsequent measurement, the system decides whether the slide valve should remain open or closed. The choice was down to two FTB DC micro motors for the drive elements. Their outstanding performance/volume relationship and, above all, their low overall height, which is made possible by the ironless rotor with the three flat, oval coils, makes them ideally suited for such an application. The precious metal commutation, with its low contact resistance, enables minimal starting voltages – ideal for efficient battery operation. A tiny microprocessor is responsible for the control of the humidor’s individual components – the humidity sensor, FTB control drives, fan and warning functions. Total peace of mind – this is the essential prerequisite for any product that aims to pamper. The FTB motor fits this philosophy perfectly.
